Drafts, Edits & Revisions...
What I found most interesting about the concept of "rewriting" in chapter twelve is that "teachers often neglect it and rarely demonstrate how rewriting works."(190) Which is so true! It made me reflect on my own academic essay writing and how I only reread my formal essays after it has been graded. It's then that I realize I could have reworded and restructured things differently.
I think that for K-12 students it's important that teachers offer students the chance to rewrite their essays for better grades. It's a learning process and if a student didn't write a strong enough thesis then they should have the opportunity to enhance it a second time for a better grade. So often I receive my official grade and read the feedback provided by the professor and realize my faults ...and by then it's too late. I've already submitted the paper and can't do anything about it. So learning how to outline, draft, edit and revise is a valuable step for students to learn and for professors to teach.
